What’s the Hedgehog Effect ?
Two sleepy hedgehogs huddled together because of the cold.
But because they all had thorns on their bodies, they left a distance, but they
were too cold to bear, so they got together. After several tossings, the two
hedgehogs finally found a suitable distance: they can get each other's warmth
without being pierced.
The Hedgehog Effect mainly refers to the "psychological
distance effect" in interpersonal communication.
To build high-performance teams, managers should maintain an
"intimate but distance" relationship with their subordinates. They
should be "close to those who are alienated, and estranged to those who are
too close". The relationship is close but principled, and dignity but
still cordial. This is the way to success.
