Most successful organizations realize the importance of implementing an NPI (New Product Introduction) process.

NPI is the management of the entire system process from the beginning to mass production to define, develop and launch a new or improved product. The main activities are listed as below, but no limited to:

- Define the product’s functional / performance requirements along with the VOC (Voice Of Customer)
- Study the feasibility and allow the management to evaluate the potential for success
- Access the R&D risks, make the plan, review at various stages, validate and generate the design outputs
- Make the prototype, perform prototype testing, define packing/packaging, drawings, process workflows/mapping, working instructions, APQP, PPAP, etc, create the toolings/fixtures/jigs
- Conduct the pilot runs, redefine and validate the production processes, and implement the mass production
- Evaluate the products being manufactured and services provided

An effective NPI program involves a large amount of cross-functional communication and teamwork.
